What this host does not have
Stated plainly because it is a deliberate design constraint rather than an accident:
- No mail transfer agent. There is no Postfix, Exim or Sendmail on it. It cannot deliver a message even if instructed to.
- No database access. It reads a plain text file of addresses and writes a plain text file of answers. It cannot reach the systems that hold anything else.
- No mailing list, no message content, no scheduler. Nothing on this host decides who gets written to.
The boundary is the point: a fault in verification cannot turn into unwanted mail, because the machine doing the verifying has no way to send any.
